Handmade fan

We are in the middle of June and hot weather is already here. We are all wishing for portable a air conditioner. Unfortunately, that is nearly impossible, nevertheless I have practical solution – handmade fan!
I`m that kind of person who always tries to match accessories with outfits, but I don’t have the chance to buy many fans with different patterns. That’s why I decided to make one by my own. That way I will always have a perfectly matching, practical accent for my outfit!

All you need:
> Thread and needle
> Compasses
> Straws/ ice cream sticks
> Colour paper
> Heavy books and scissors
> Colour pens, markers, paint

handmade fan1. Prepare your straws by cutting them the correct size. If you use flex straws cut the flex part. I needed 7 straws.

bookmark2. Put the straws between two heavy books to flatten them out. (If you like these bookmarks go and check how to do them here.)

Quick tip —> Instead of straws you can use ice cream sticks.

handmade fan3. While waiting, draw on the colour paper two semicircles the way it is shown on the picture, using the compasses. One bigger and one smaller but both with same center point.

handmade fan5. Fold the paper in concertina type.

handmade fan6. Put the thread in the needle. Match each straw with each paper bar, formed by folding the paper. Sew the upper  part of the straw with the upper part of the paper. Remember to sew the straw on the same side of the paper – behind.

handmade fan7. Put the bottom parts of the straws one over the other and sew them together.
