While I was explorering Stuttgard, Germany, I came across a very big and interesting decor/interior shop. I got in love with it! I stayed there for an hour searching for smething that can easily be recreated. And I did find it! Cute little decor glass stones or cabochons. I really don`t know how to name them. But it wasn`t the first time I saw this idea so I decided that it`s time to present it to you. And of course I improved it a little bit so in this post I will show you how to make your very own glass cabochon rings.
All you need:
> Glass clear cabochon or accent marbles
> Nail polish
> Napkin, white glue and a paint brush
> Ring base and superglue
1. First you should find and buy your cabochons. When I first decided to recreate this idea I couldn`t find any cabochon. Nowhere in my town! I was searcing all over the city but without any results. So I finnaly decided to use something else and I found that accent marbles work well! They are flat on one side and convex on the other. So if you can`t find any cabochons try with accent marbles.
There are a few ways to decorate the cabochon. You can use a napkin, nail polishes or printed pictures. I`m presenting you how to decorate with a napkin and nail polish.
1. First, find a napkind with a suitable element. I chose a little vintage rose.
2. Cut your element and peel off all napkin`s layers. Use the upper main layer.
3. Apply one coat of the superglue on the flat side of the cabochon using a paint brush.
4. Glue it to the element upside down.
5. Apply one more coat of the glue.
6. Apply one coat of nail polish with matching colour.
7. Finally glue it with superglue to the ring base.
1. Second idea is to decorate with nail polishe. The trick here is to work on layers. I chose to make a leopard print, because I can show you how to work on layers and secondly, because I want to complimeted my set of leopard sweater and DIY breclet. In this case you have to work in reversed order than usual. On paper we start with the backround and finish with the deteails, but here the details are first and the background comes after. First make the leopard spots using black nails polish. The spots are oval but the line is dashed.
2. The second step is to colour the spots. I chose neon colours to match with my sweater and blouse.
3. Finally, colour the background. In my case it`s white.
I made Jake from Adventure time too!
And after a month of searching, the cabochons are now available in my town and I can make other types of jewerly. This brooch, I made with napkin.
The effect with glittered nail polish is my favourite!
